How I’m Finding Balance In My Busy Life

As a busy gal who juggles full-time work, part-time college, and social life/family time/hobbies, finding a balance between it all is very important to my overall well-being.

In 2023, I’m making it a point to focus on my work-life balance.

I know that a lack of balance in my life contributed to a lot of my anxiety and depression last year. And I’d like to avoid that this year if I could help it!

While I made the choice to go back to school last fall, it doesn’t mean I can’t still enjoy my life. It just means I need to find a ~healthy balance~, which will make it much more enjoyable (and hopefully less painful).

And I’m going to be completely honest with you – it’s tough!

I still describe myself as a “chronic procrastinator”. The anticipation of my Tinder match responding to my message or seeing how many people have seen my recent story on the FOF IG are sometimes too hard to let go of when I’m supposed to be reading a chapter for school.

Also, not to mention coming home from an 8 hour workday and then getting back in front of the screen for an hour and half to two hours can make a gal want to scroll social media into oblivion.

But I will say that I’m getting better at staying on task! It’s all a practice that I need to keep up with everyday.

In this post, I’ll be sharing with you exactly what I’ve been implementing (and trying to implement) over the last month and a half in order to find that much-needed balance in my busy life.

Scheduling My Tasks

Man, am I glad I started scheduling my tasks and days!

Here’s an example of what I mean:

The photo above is a screenshot of the calendar in my phone from a Saturday a few weeks ago. (This is basically what most of my scheduled Saturdays look like)

Creating a time-based and goals-based schedule like this helps me accomplish the things I need to on the weekends especially, since it always feels like the weekends go by too fast.

It’s not perfect (it looks weird and messy lol), but it keeps me on track and organized.

There’s no right or wrong way to do it!

Getting Out Of The House

I live at home with my family, so this is one is self-explanatory (lol), but some days I just need to get out of the house so I can focus better on school work.

I’ve been frequenting a new local coffeehouse in my area on Sunday afternoons to finish up assignments and catch up on chapter readings. And I also occasionally work on content for FOF there too!

Last semester, I stayed locked away in my room most weekend afternoons doing schoolwork. And needless to say, I was quite miserable!

That’s why Operation Go To The Coffeehouse started and has been working out well for me and my focus (and my sanity).

Having Hobbies

I recently started playing pickleball at the beginning of this year, and so far I LOVE IT!

It gets me active, gets me out of the house, lets me socialize with new people, and lets me take a nice breather from work and school.

I’ve even signed myself up for a league that starts next week so I can have fun and meet new people!

Maybe one day I could become a pro player on the side and make some extra money?

Also, this blog and the FOF IG are hobbies for me, as it lets me combine my passions of personal finance and digital marketing.

Overall, having healthy and fun hobbies has made my life much more enjoyable and it gives me an opportunity to stay creative outside of my job and schoolwork.

Summary

Finding a balance in my life hasn’t been the easiest thing in the world, but it’s definitely one of the best things I’ve done for myself recently.

Being able to schedule my days/tasks, go out into the world more, and have active and creative hobbies has brought not just balance, but more enjoyment to my life.

A balanced life is a happier life, and I couldn’t be prouder of myself for making this change for the new year.
